Piscine de l’Orient (Aqua Tournai) – Renovation & Extension
The Piscine de l’Orient in Tournai has been fully renovated and extended into a contemporary aquatic complex that combines architecture, sustainability, and public use. As part of the Walloon Plan Piscines, the project transforms an aging municipal swimming pool into an energy-efficient, accessible, and multifunctional facility. A new curved roof replaces the former iconic pyramid, redefining the building’s silhouette while improving thermal performance and daylighting.
The renewed program integrates a sports pool, leisure and family areas, learning-to-swim facilities, and a wellness zone, creating an inclusive environment for all ages and abilities. Special attention was given to accessibility, user comfort, and reduced chemical consumption.
Piscine de l’Orient demonstrates how thoughtful architectural intervention can extend the life of public infrastructure while strengthening its urban and social role.
